Urben Explorer - Chengdu
Chengdu is located in the west of China and is well known for its cute Panda Bears and spicy, Sichuan cuisine. On a recent visit to Chengdu (for the International Academic Conference of Underground Space) I was able to enjoy each of these things, as well as the experience of being in a youthful city that is growing rapidly but remaining true to its love of the creative arts and nature. If you get a chance to visit, try:
Visiting the pandas at the Chengdu Research Base for Giant Pandas
Relaxing with yoga and brunch at the Temple House Hotel
Tasting loads of different local foods, including the famous local hotpot.
Nu Space book shop and arts studio.
Travelling by metro - it’s clean, cheap, fast and easy to navigate.
Reading How the City Moved to Mr Sun by Michiel Hulshof and Daan Roggeveen.
